Llangron Dutch Barn

Overview

The Llangranog Dutch Barn project is a practical, hard-wearing rural structure designed to provide generous covered space with a clean, modern look. We transformed this agricultural space into a modern luxury holiday let with 12 ensuite bedrooms.

Set in a coastal/rural location near Llangranog, this build focuses on durability, weather protection, and efficient construction. The curved roof shape helps shed wind and rain effectively while creating a bright, spacious interior.

  • Large clear internal space with minimal internal supports

  • Fast build potential when panels are prepared correctly and installed in sequence

  • Neat, consistent finish with accurate panel sizing and clean junction details

Why SIPs Work Well Here

SIPs are a great fit for buildings like this because they combine structure and insulation in one product. That means fewer layers to manage on site, quicker progress, and a more predictable finish.

Benefits can include:

  • Improved thermal efficiency (where the barn is being enclosed/conditioned)

  • Reduced drafts compared with many traditional build-ups

  • Faster enclosure of the structure, helping protect the build from weather

  • Cleaner, more controlled installation with less on-site waste

Build Notes

Every site is different, but the key to a smooth SIP install is preparation.

  • Confirm the base is level and square before installation

  • Dry-fit where possible to avoid alignment issues

  • Use the correct adhesives/foams and fixings for SIP construction

  • Plan lifting/handling so panels stay clean and undamaged
